About John Glover

Joseph John Edmund Glover  (1924–2020)

John Glover was President of the Royal Society of Western Australia in 1961–62 and editor of the Society’s journal from 1958 to 1963. He was born in Mt Barker, about 50 km north of Albany, Western Australia. After war-time service in the RAAF, an interrupted undergraduate degree in Science at UWA and a PhD at the University of California, Berkley, he devoted most of his adult life to the study of Geology in Western Australia. In his research on sedimentary petrology, John collaborated with archaeologists, geographers, and historians. In 2004, he was awarded the UWA Chancellor’s Medal for his service to the University of Western Australia over many years.

During the final years of his long retirement John kept an active interest in the Society and the Journal. He passed away in Perth during his 96th year, and left a substantial bequest to RSWA. This has been used to fund the John Glover Research Support Grants
