History

The RSWA Library has been entrusted to the Western Australian Museum since 1960, with the Museum’s Librarian acting as its Honorary Librarian.

It was originally located in Perth, but was moved to the Museum’s Research and Collections facility in Welshpool in 2004. Margaret Triffit modernized the library during her tenure as Honorary Librarian from 1987 to 2012. The collection includes specialist books, journals, and scientific publications, many of which were obtained through exchange for the JRSWA. There are also over 100 monographs published before 1900, including rare publications on early voyages to Australia and the botany of Australia. The library’s catalog is available online through the WA Museum’s website and can be accessed by appointment. While borrowing is restricted to Museum staff, the library is available to the public for reference and research, and articles may be photocopied.
